We had a taste of reality this past week. My sisters kids came to stay with us from Wednesday to Saturday. We went from being a family of 3 to a family of 6. I usually get them every summer for about a week, but we did a shooter time this year, as it just worked better. They were so good to have around. If you could have an instant family with ages from 0 to 12, it might not be so bad. It is the getting to those ages that is a little rough. However, I think each age group has it own problems. It was kind of nice though to have some extra help. Ryan and Taylor are old enough to be able to help out with Sam and entertain each other and Reid.
Let's back up first. On Wednesday, mom came over with the kids. Todd and I had tickets to go see Jersey Boys - great show!! It is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. We were a little surprised by some of the language, but as we were leaving we saw a sign that said, "this show contains authentic Jersey vocabulary." SO I guess that means that all people from NJ talk this way??? I think not, but I get it:) Anyway, it was a very enjoyable show with lots of fun music.
Thursday, i took all the kids to Bounce U (forgot my camera) for open bounce.Sam really had fun going down the giant slide. We had a great time. That afternoon we went over to Vickie and Deans for a swim. They had Sam cracking up. She was just smiling and laughing at them the whole time. If I learned anything - keep the sugar to a minimum and keep them busy. That evening we went to the park and they played. That night they slept like rocks!! Friday, we went over to my friends Steph's to swim. We also spent some time playing with the Wii. Kids amaze me. I am sooooo bad, but they are soo gooooood. Todd took them back over to Dean's on Saturday to swim. I think they all wore each other out. They came home looking beat. Todd forgot the sunscreen and came home with a massive sunburn.
An update on Sam and her reflux. We have been giving her the Zantac for the last week and a half. We are not really sure if we think it is doing any good. She is still spitting up and now she is up all night crying and seems to be in pain. I think the medicine is constipating her. We both have decided that we can deal with the spitup more than the not sleeping. I am going to call the Dr tomorrow to see if there is something else we can try. Melanie told me that reflux meds are tricky and it sometimes takes trying different things to find what works for each child. For now we have decided to stop the meds and see if what happens.
